Renaming efforts

Renaming our community sites is very important to our Indigenous communities. By removing names associated with genocide and the colonization of our peoples, we are reclaiming a portion of our cultural histories and restoring environments of healing, strength and renewal for our people.

Fight for Mount Blue Sky

Spirit of the Sun has been working with our community partners to remove the name of John Evans from our sacred mountains. Progress has been made and the decision has been passed to Governor Polis.

Renaming dsst CEDAR

DSST Cedar, formerly named DSST Byers High School, had a long-standing name associated with an avid supporter and public proponent of the Sand Creek Massacre. Spirit of the Sun worked closely with our community partners to advocate for a name change of the school and succeeded!
