AmeriCorps Population Health Aide Program

In the Fall of 2015 Spirit of the Sun, in partnership with the Northern Arapaho Tribe, implemented a new AmeriCorps State and National Program on the Wind River Indian Reservation in central Wyoming. This program trains young tribal members to deliver ancillary healthcare services and health information to tribal members via home visits and public community education sessions. The goal of the program is to both improve access to healthcare and improve the health of the Wind River community, but also to provide healthcare career pathways to tribal youth.

AmeriCorps members, or PHAs, receive training in the following areas:
– Diabetes
– Nutrition
– Healthy exercise
– CPR/First Aide
– Self-defense and anti-bullying
– Patient privacy laws
– Mental health
– Suicide prevention
– Substance abuse
