Spirit of the Sun’s Work
Spirit of the Sun understands that economic and community development go hand-in-hand. We believe that effective and sustainable development work recognizes the intersection of culture, community and economy. We tailor all of our programming to the specific needs and desires of each individual Native American community. More importantly, we facilitate and maintain an open and ongoing dialogue, ensuring that every project and initiative we execute reflects the unique aspirations of the communities we serve.
Through the use of our innovative software technology we engage tribes to simulate the probabilities of success for a host of possible economic development initiatives that underscore the espoused values of each respective tribe. In 2010, Spirit of the Sun added an on-the-ground AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer program to more than 15 reservations and Native American organizations, through partnership with the Corporation for National Community Service. Our volunteers work directly with tribal officials and community members in order to build capacity and facilitate growth, both in terms of enhancing services within Native communities and stimulating economic growth throughout Indian country. Through our emphasis on strategic economic planning and our growing involvement and relationship with numerous Native American tribes and organizations, Spirit of the Sun is continually developing new programs in direct response to the dynamic and complex needs of a diverse American Indian community.
While Spirit of the Sun is proud of the work we’ve accomplished in partnership with so many Native American communities, we know there is more work to be done. As we continue to nurture and expand the programming we offer, we look forward to working with new tribes, organizations and individuals seeking a more prosperous future for each and every American Indian.
